Second Stride Inc. Racehorse Adoption/Foster Home Application
Prospective adopters and foster homes please fill out the 32
questions on the following form, filling in all the needed information. Sign
and date the form at the bottom. Feel free to call with any questions:
502-807-6069. All information is required to facilitate the adoption. All
applicants must be 18 years or older. All contacts given in this application
may be contacted for referrals. Second Stride Inc. reserves the right to
approve or deny an application for any reason.
There is an application fee of $10 made payable to Second
Stride Inc. You may send the fee through PayPal.com to secondstride@insightbb.com., or mail your fee to the address below. The
application will be processed once your application fee is received. All horses
are adopted on a first come first serve basis after application approval. Your
application will stay on file for one year from approval date

understand that this is a Thoroughbred racehorse that may have no other
prior riding experience besides racing unless otherwise stated?

state a brief history of your experience with horses, i.e. length of
involvement, types of horses, training and showing level:

you owned your own horse and been solely responsible for its care before?

you ever been found guilty of horse abuse or animal neglect?

you ever been investigated or tried for animal abuse or neglect? If so
please explain thoroughly (attach separate page if necessary):

violations?

realize that the expenses for caring for a Thoroughbred horse, even if you
own your own land can be in the range of $1,500-$3,000 per year?

you aware there are insurance policies you can purchase for health and
mortality for your horse? (See website for referrals)
- Do you
realize that the first transitional 6-12 months for a racehorse can
determine the fate of the rest of their lives? That this time is crucial for proper
healing of any injuries and proper subsequent retraining to give them a
well-adjusted post racing life?

recondition your newly adopted race horse in a timely manner so that they
will have a good base of training to fall back on for the rest of their
lives?

agree to the best of your abilities to try to follow the care guide of the

have experience in working with horses directly off of the racetrack? If not, do you have access and intent
to hire a professional trainer to help you?

realize that many Thoroughbreds have never seen any type of fencing other
than highly visible and sturdy board plank?

agree and understand that with wire and electric fencing most
Thoroughbreds will need care in being shown the new fencing and the
boundaries to prevent potentially fatal accidents?

understand that most straight off the track horses will first need turn
out in a small paddock of sturdy fencing, without corners to prevent
injury or damage to the horse or fencing?
And that some may even need the use of vet administered sedatives
prior to the first turn out?

Stride Inc will require a bill of sale that will stipulate a lifetime “Not for Race Use” clause, stating
the horse will never be used for race use. You may sell your adopted
horse, but the “Not for Race Use” clause will follow the horse and the new
owners will also be bound by the “Not
for Race Use” clause of this bill of
sale. Do you understand and agree to require all future buyers to honor
this requirement by placing this clause in your bill of sale?
