SPECTER, 7 year old Thoroughbred gelding >>ADOPTED! March 2011, thanks to Amanda M. of Ohio. May 2011: "Specter had his first event this weekend and finished in 6th place in the Beginner Novice division! He was so easy from start to finish - what a joy! Will send some pictures soon." - Amanda
JUMP ABOARD, 4 year old Thoroughbred filly >>ADOPTED! 65th Second Stride horse adopted in 2010! December 2010, thanks to Kim K., Colorado. "She arrived! and she is GORGEOUS. The transport company said she "trailered like a soldier" and was so well behaved. She is very sweet and eating and drinking just fine. Seems like she's already been here for days and has settled right in."
WINGMAN, 13 year old Thoroughbred gelding >>ADOPTED! October 2010, thanks to Jacki A., North Carolina. His adoptive owner figured out his registered name, "Ring John", by paying the Jockey Club to compare the pictures of his leg chesnuts.
NOVEMBER 2010 update on "Wingman" - Do not worry about the whole age thing; I truly think I was meant to have this horse. :) He has some lumps and bumps and even a crooked front leg, but he has made it this far. If it does not bother him, it does not bother me! I think he has a lot to teach me. I just want to keep him happy and help him live to a ripe old age comfortably.
He earned $86,519. Out of his 70 starts, he had 11 wins, 18 places, and 4 shows. His first race was 09/30/1995; his last race was 11/15/2002. I would say he definitely earned his retirement. He started in Pennsylvania, but he raced mostly at Mountaineer.
I can see why his owner has called to check on him because he is a model equine citizen. You are right - he seems so proud after he has been ridden. He looks at me like he is asking if he did a good job even though he already knows he did. He is so kind and wise. Most importantly, he makes me happy!
Thanks again - Jackie
SMALL CAP VALUE, 3 year old thoroughbred gelding >>ADOPTED! August 2010, thanks to Andrea H., Kentucky. Comment from Small Cap Value's prior owner, Harvey Diamond of Skychai Racing who has made very generous donations to the program, "Second Stride is second to none. Skychai hopes to be there for you a long time."
OCEANOGRAPHER, 3 year old Thoroughbred gelding >>ADOPTED! July 2010, thanks to W. Schaffer, Michigan. "Remington (Oceanographer) is doing great in his new home. "Remi" has been showing in local high school equestrian meets. Last year he showed for the first time in a hunter under saddle flat class and did great. He was calm and relaxed about it the entire time, he has so much patience and a "no problem" attitude. No one had any idea that he was only three and just off the track. -

GALAX, 6 year old thoroughbred gelding >>ADOPTED! July 2008, thanks to Dennis P. and Sue D., Oklahoma who also adopted 3 year old gelding Southern Stag. "They are so sweet and they love all the attention we can give them. They are both just like big o puppy dogs. Thank you again."
Most of the following were adopted early in 2006 or prior. If anyone has more updates on any of our adopted horses, we'd love to see photos, please send us an email:
Senor Sancho, thoroughbred gelding placed in an eventing home (KY). In 2011 we found out that Senor Sancho, who was originally adopted by and received his initial training from Yvonne W. in 2004, moved on to a low level eventing student, then to upper level rider Elissa Estes (Gibbs). Senor Sancho, now using show name "Medici", represents one of the early placements by Second Stride's founder Kim Smith that inspired her to formalize the adoption process and the non-profit organization in 2005. In 2011, at age 11, Medici and Elissa Gibbs are successfully competing in CCI*** events and have qualified for The Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event, the only four star event in the Americas. We will be posting more updates on Medici on the show results page >>
Riper
Ridge, thoroughbred gelding, started over fences, placed in eventing show home (KY)
"Dear Second Stride, I was recently on your site looking at the available horses and realized that it is the program that my current horse, Riper Ridge, was originally adopted through! I would love to give you an update on how this plucky little horse is now doing!
I've now had Riper (now shown as Rolin on the River) for 7 years, and he is by far the most special horse I have ever had the pleasure of working with. He is truly unique in character and a joy to be around. Though he has taken some time to mature and progress, he is turning into a very successfull event horse, and just completed his first season at Training Level showing plenty of potential for more! Thank you for having such a wonderful program to bring horses like this into our lives!" - Morgan Rowe

Coronado Bill, (aka "Taylor Made") thoroughbred gelding placed in a
show home (KY)
Buyer James Brammell reports, "Taylor has continued to be the gentlemen

progress." Subsequent buyer Brian Erwin of Charlottesville, Virginia writes,
"Taylor Made (aka Coronado Bill) is doing great and loving life. We ended up pulling his shoes last fall since he would not keep them on anyway,
and he is doing GREAT! His feet have never looked as good as they do now. We have not had any trouble with him and my wife Carol is his biggest
fan. They went out on a long "trail ride" with some others a week ago, and Taylor outdid and outlasted the other horses. As Carol put it, he did
everything she asked of him. We are finishing up Taylor's new home, 15 acres in Orange County, Virginia and Carol looks forward to riding him much
more often. He has been absolutely wonderful, thank you and please thank his original owners."
