NEW SHOWS FOR THOROUGHBREDS! The NATIONAL THOROUGHBRED RACING ASSOCIATION announced that the Thoroughbred Horse Show Association (TBHS) will hold two Thoroughbred-only horse shows at the Kentucky Horse Park in 2012. The shows, on April 14-15 and October 5-7, will feature introductory level, multi-discipline classes including show jumping, dressage and competitive trail riding. The shows are open to Thoroughbreds who are registered with The Jockey Club. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION >>

If you are interested in adopting one of our Second Stride thoroughbreds, please remember that priority is given to those with an ADOPTION APPLICATION ON FILE. Thank you for your interest in our program and our adoptable thoroughbreds!

NEW THOROUGHBRED INCENTIVE PROGRAM! To encourage the retraining of Thoroughbreds into other disciplines upon completion of careers in racing or breeding, The Jockey Club announced the Thoroughbred Incentive Program (T.I.P.). T.I.P. offers sponsorship for Thoroughbred-only classes and divisions, high point Thoroughbred awards at open horse shows and competitions, a Thoroughbred of the Year Award and a Young Rider of the Year Award. Due to the nature of equine adoptions, no adoption made with Second Stride Inc. has a refundable fee, warranty period, or any obligation to accept previously adopted horses in exchange or trade-in free of charge. We try hard to provide as much information as possible about each horse's physical and mental state prior to adoption, but we advise adopters to vet check a potential horse prior to adopting to be sure it is suitable.  We do agree to help network and place any horse adopted from Second Stride that does not suit the adopter's needs if the adopter does not want to sell privately. We will take previously adopted horses back into our program on a priority basis free of charge, as space permits. We are not liable for any known or unknown defect in an adopted horse.

Please note that we track adopted horses to make sure they do not ever show up in any future race entries.

ALL HORSES ADOPT ON A "FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED" BASIS WITH PRIORITY TO THOSE WITH APPROVED APPLICATIONS ON FILE.

THE JOCKEY CLUB HAS ANNOUNCED: Thoroughbred Connect, part of their Interactive RegistrationTM program. Thoroughbred Connect allows customers to express their willingness to be contacted by the possessor of a horse in the event the horse is in need of placement. Those interested in providing assistance or aftercare have the ability to attach their name and contact information to the electronic records of specific Thoroughbreds within The Jockey Club’s database. Similarly, a person who is seeking placement for a Thoroughbred in his possession can log into Thoroughbred Connect and request the contact information attached to a particular horse. The possessor of the horse may then contact that prospective owner directly to perform due diligence and discuss potential arrangements to transfer the horse.

The Jockey Club will record and track microchips, a big help to keep pets from the slaughter house by sales or placements that go wrong, and to identify horses that are lost or stolen. The Jockey Club recently lowered the price of microchips from $20 to $10, and we encourage those who have not microchipped their Thoroughbreds to consider doing so at this time. Help ensure that your horse is traceable - have them microchipped!
