Horses will be accepted into the program if space is available and all requirements are met. We will help with networking for any horse in need if space isn't available in our program or if requirements can't be met.

Monetary donations are encouraged but not required for acceptance of a horse into the program.

July 2010: THANKS to all who participated in the Second Stride hosted charity fundraiser, Handicappers Helping Horses, on July 10th, 2010. The event was a horse racing handicapping tournament. For a $25.00 entry fee, 57 handicappers competed for donated prizes, and bragging rights as to who is the best at picking winners. The event was held at Shenanigans Irish Grille, in Louisville, where contestants watched the races on TVG, to see who could use their imaginary bankroll to make the most money. Proceeds from entry fees, individual donations, a silent auction, and raffle tickets totaled over $3000! See photos from the event at right. Click here for the tournament results >>

April 2010: THANKS to everyone who came out to the The Annual John Henry Memorial Equine Adoption Fair at the Kentucky Horse Park. Second Stride showed GOVERNOR GENERAL and EASY MONEY at the Adoption Fair where they were available for inspection by potential adoptors throughout the day. Video from the Adoption Fair >>

Special thanks go to our board members who volunteered their time for hauling the horses and equipment to the event, as well as handling all the other details that go into showing horses. Also we could not bring the horses along in their training without the expert help of our paid and unpaid riders. We'd like to thank rider ERIN BUTTIGIEG, who showed both horses in front of the crowd at the Adoption Fair, for her vital role in showing the potential of our retired racers to excel in a new career.

April 2010: THANKS to everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual "Hats & Horses" event at the Bristol Bar & Grille in Prospect Kentucky. The event featured beautifully designed Oaks and Derby hats from Madam Foo Foo Couture, original cocktails (called "ponytails") created especially for the horses in the Media Thoroughbred Group stable, live music, raffles, celebrity bartenders and a special menu. Proceeds benefit the horses of Second Stride.

Thanks to Madam Foo Foo Couture for a generous donation to Second Stride, also all those who supported us in the raffles at this event including Equithrive, cutting edge joint supplement for reducing inflamation, Julie Bender, artist, Sam English photography, Bristol Bar & Grille and Four Roses Bourbon.

February 2010: THANKS to everyone who came out to the Second Stride Fundraiser Handicapping Contest at Chick Inn! Best of 41 competitors was contest winner Mike Snyder. The event was organized by Second Stride board member and secretary Jean Amick and her wonderful support team including Kent Amick, Mr. and Mrs. Barry, Larry Heil, Jim and Suzie Asseff, Joan and Brian Thompson, Kathy and Mark Stim, Chick Inn owners, staff and patrons, Hermitage Farm, Bill Landes and many others. All proceeds benefit the horses of Second Stride Inc. non-profit organization for retired thoroughbred racehorses.

The Jockey Club will record and track microchips, a big help to keep pets from the slaughter house by sales or placements that go wrong, or for horses that are stolen. Help ensure that your horse is traceable - have them microchipped!

The Jockey Club website includes the following information: Microchip reporting is provided as a convenience for owners, breeders and their agents to record microchip numbers implanted into Thoroughbreds registered with The Jockey Club. International standards approved by members of the International Stud Book Committee recommend the use of microchips compliant with the ISO 11784 standard. ISO standard 11785 microchip readers are used to detect the 11784 microchip. Contact your veterinarian for information concerning implantation of microchips into your Thoroughbred(s). For more information concerning radio frequency identification devices including microchips, please contact the American Horse Council, 1616 H Street, NW, 7th Floor, Washington, DC 20006, (202) 296-4031.
